Windows GUI Client

The Dynamsoft SourceAnywhere for VSS Windows GUI Client window looks like Visual SourceSafe Explorer. Below the toolbar is a Source Location Bar which used to goto an existing project. The pane on the left side (Project Tree) includes a tree view of the SourceSafe database. The pane on the right (File List) is a listing of the files in the currently selected project. The file list view includes a status field that offers some information of the file.

Above the File List pane is Working Folder Bar which displays the local working directory assigned to currently selected project. The lower pane (Status Window) is a listing of recently performed operations.

Source Location

Typing a valid project path in the bar and press Enter enable you go to the project location directly.

NOTE: Currently, only valid folder path can be performed successfully. Invalid folder path or file path will be regarded as incorrect path.

If you type in a incorrect path, you will get the following error message box:

Project Tree

The Project tree displays as a hierarchical tree on the left side (by default) of the Client window. The top of the tree is called the root project and is displayed as $/. Since SourceAnywhere for VSS 6.0, Project Tree window is designed as dockable and floating which allows users to drag it to other locations.

Dynamsoft SourceAnywhere for VSS Client users must have a minimum of read permission to this root project in order for Dynamsoft SourceAnywhere for VSS to retrieve the project tree. These permissions are set in the SourceSafe Admin tool.

File List

Name: The name of the file.

User: The name of the user who checked out the file.

Date-time: The date of the remote copy of the file.

Local Modification: The last modification date/time of the local copy of the file in the working folder.

Remote Version: The version number of remote copy of the file.

Local Version: The version number of local copy of the file in the working folder.

Status: Shows the state of the local copy of the file in the working folder.

Status	Explanation
Normal	The local copy in the working folder has not been edited. It matches the version in the repository.
Edited	The local copy in the working folder is checked out and has been edited. The remote version has not changed.
Renegade	The local copy in the working folder has been edited but is not currently checked out.
Needs Merge	The local copy in the working folder is checked out and edited. The remote version has also been edited.
Old	The server copy of the file is newer than the local copy in the working folder. The local copy in the working folder has not been edited.
Missing	The local copy in the working folder does not exist.
Unknown	The local copy exists in the working folder but SourceAnywhere for VSS cannot determine its status.
More Recent	The local copy in the working folder has not been edited and is a version of the file which is more recent than the current version on the server.

Check Out Folder: Shows the path of the check out folder.

Working Folder

Display the local working directory path of currently selected project. From SourceAnywehere for VSS 6.0, the path is designed as a hyperlink which enables users to explore the working folder easily. See also Set Working Folder.

Status Window (Output Window)

The Status Window is located in the lower portion (by default) of the Client window. The successes or failures of recently performed file operations are dynamically logged to this window. Every operation that is performed in the Dynamsoft SourceAnywhere for VSS Client during a session is documented in the Status Window.

Since SourceAnywhere for VSS 6.0, there are four optional window mode for Status Window:  Floating, Dockable, Auto Hide and Hide:

The number of lines to display in the Status Window is configurable from Tools > Options > View. The default is 500 lines. To clear the Status Window, select Clear Status Window from the Edit menu.
