How to run SAW for VSS Java Client

JDK version 1.4.2.8 is needed for SAW for VSS Java environment.

Windows

  1. Download JDK version 1.4.2.8 from http://www.sun.com and install it.
  2. Set Java environment for running the java applications (including *.jar). Please refer to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/runtime_win32.html.

You can use the MS-DOS command prompt to run the SAW for VSS java client. Go to the folder where the SAW for VSS java client is installed, then perform the command:  java -jar SAWV.jar

Or go to the project where the SAW for VSS java client is installed, right-click the SAWV.jar and choose Open With>Choose Program>Browse, select the javaw.exe in the bin folder under the JDK installation directory.

Linux

  1. Download JDK version 1.4.2.8  from http://www.sun.com and install it
  2. Set Java environment for running the java applications (including *.jar). Please refer to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/jre/install-linux.html.

You can open the Console and go to the folder where the SAW for VSS java client is installed, then perform the
command:  java -jar SAWV.jar

Or go to the project where the SAW for VSS java client is installed, right-click the SAWV.jar and choose Open With>Other Application>Go there>Browse, select the” java command” in the bin folder under the JDK installation directory and add “-jar” parameter to run SAW for VSS java client.

Sun Solaris

You can open the Console and go to the folder where the SAW for VSS java client is installed, then perform the
command:  java -jar SAWV.jar

Mac OS X

You can open the Console and go to the folder where the SAW for VSS java client is installed, then perform the
command:  java -jar SAWV.jar

Or double-click SAWV.jar in the folder where the SAW for VSS java client is installed.

Note: If you'd like to use MergeHero ( the diff/merge utility of SAW for VSS) to show file/project difference, please download Java MergeHero from the download page and place it under the folder where SAWV.jar resides.
