Dynamsoft Provides Solution to Google’s Plans to No Longer Support NPAPI in Chrome

In a previous blog article, we mentioned that our R&D team has been actively researching different alternatives to support post-NPAPI Chrome for our web-based document imaging SDKs. We are glad to announce that after a series of researches and analysis, we have come to the conclusion – we will develop a WebSocket solution to enable web scanning in Chrome.

WebSocket protocol is part of HTML5, which is supported by the latest versions of Chrome.  The protocol is TCP-based and is designed to be implemented in web browsers and web servers.

With the new WebSocket SDK, you can use it to capture images from your TWAIN devices in Chrome. Meanwhile, we will continue support NPAPI plugin so that your web scanning application using Dynamsoft imaging SDKs can support older browsers. Also, we will make sure the new SDK to be available will provide the same consistent user experience and the implementation process for old customers will be very smooth.

Will the WebSocket version require a live internet connection, or will it still be possible to do offline scanning (for example, using AppCache)?

No. The solution is for offline scanning.
