IBM Opts for Dynamsoft's SDK to Build Document Scanning in its Datacap Web Solution
A Choice for Browser Preference and Enhanced Security
Datacap used to provide web-based document scanning using ActiveX technology. Users could only scan from Internet Explorer and not from other popular browsers like Chrome® and Firefox®. The use of ActiveX technology is also known in the industry to bring about some user security concerns that come with its installation. IBM needed a modern web scan solution that provides cross-browser support while ensuring better security.
Expands to Support macOS
Previously, Datacap web scanning was only available on Windows® workstations. IBM customers wanted to scan using both Windows® and Mac® OS X. They also wanted the same user experience on both platforms. The IBM development team was able to use Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN SDK to quickly implement the platform expansion and keep the same user experience for both Windows and Mac.
Accelerated Time-to-market
IBM was interested in using an SDK for web scan capabilities instead of coding from scratch. Datacap is a broad solution with many capabilities. The development team felt using an SDK for the scan component would allow the team to save time and instead focus on other key components. Use of Dynamsoft's SDK did accelerate delivery of the total solution. IBM developers were able to leverage the SDK to quickly implement scanning capabilities.
Feature Customization and Tech Support
The SDK needed some enhancements to meet IBM-specific requirements. The IBM team worked with Dynamsoft to define features, cost structure and a timeline to deliver the requested enhancements. This allowed IBM to ensure a seamless transition for customers who had previously used older ActiveX technology. These needs were met and Dynamsoft continues to provide technical support as needed.
