Snapshot

American HealthTech offers technology services and solutions for skilled nursing organizations and senior living facilities. Its EHR solution is used by post‐acute and senior living organizations of all sizes. To scan or upload documents into the patient's document repository, the developer team needed an SDK to save them the time of learning the intricacies of the TWAIN standard.

The team adopted Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN SDK and it significantly improved time-to-market. The application development took four months, from the planning stages to real-world deployment. Today, there are approximately 115,000 unique users logging into American HealthTech per day.

A Technology Need

American HealthTech's EHR solution provides an ability for caregivers to view and complete real-time resident information in a way that accommodates their workflow. It is built to support physician mobility. So, it lets them access resident information from mobile devices. They can even sign orders electronically, all of which provides faster and more informed care.

The company's EHR also offers clinical documentation and quality assurance applications to help the care team work efficiently, support regulatory compliance, and provide excellent care. Enhanced clinician workflows reduce the burden and effort of navigating through numerous screens to find meaningful information about their patients.

American HealthTech's EHR
Within the clinical documents section of the patient's chart, users are presented an option to easily scan or upload additional documents into the patient's document repository. To make this feature happen, the developer team at American HealthTech needed a solution to scan and upload documents into each patient's medical chart.

Getting Going with a Solution

A team of around seven worked on developing the application. This included a product manager, a user interface designer, a business associate, three developers, and one developer manager.

When it came time to implement the scan and upload function for document captures, the team sought out an SDK solution. It was ideal to use an SDK to avoid the time and resources that would have been required to internally develop expertise in TWAIN interfaces. They found Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN SDK with an online search.

The application was integrated with American HealthTech's Angular / C# / SQL Server web application. The web component integrated smoothly in desktop browsers. There were no significant obstacles to overcome. The team did encounter an issue with accessing scanners over remote desktop connections, which is their most common application use model. With a third-party tool, they were able to accommodate this access with older versions of Windows Server.

The EHR development took four months, from the planning stages to real-world deployment. Today, there are approximately 115,000 unique users logging into American HealthTech per day.

"We found Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN SDK to be practically a turnkey solution for implementing a scan and capture component for our widely used EHR solution. In addition, the Dynamsoft team has been very responsive to our support needs."

- Joseph Smith, Product Manager, American HealthTech

Advantages Gained

By using Dynamsoft's SDK, American HealthTech significantly improved its time-to-market. The SDK cut out months of development time and extra resources that would have been required to internally build a solution. Dynamic Web TWAIN turned out to be an almost turnkey solution.

About Dynamic Web TWAIN

Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN SDK provides developers a simple way to deliver a document scanning module (TWAIN, SANE or ICA) in a web application simply by writing just a couple of lines of code in JavaScript. This is instead of taking months to learn the related standards, then many more months to develop an application with hundreds to thousands of lines of code.

A completed application gives users key features for document scanning, uploading, editing, and document management within web browsers. This SDK supports 32-bit / 64-bit Internet Explorer® (IE), Edge, Firefox, Chrome and Safari® browsers on Windows®, Mac® OS X, Linux, iOS and Android.

The SDK has built-in support for local image editing and save options to a variety of image formats. Documents captured with Dynamsoft's SDK can be saved to local/remote disk, databases, SharePoint® or other document repositories.
