Snapshot

Lockheed Martin is one of the largest industrial corporations in the world. They employ around 140,000 people worldwide. Though the company is best known for aeronautics and defense solutions, Lockheed Martin is also one of the federal government's leading IT providers. More than 10,000 users across the country, made up of more than half of the nation's governors, federal agencies, and municipal government offices, use a Lockheed Martin system known as Intranet Quorum (IQ).

Users access the system via the internet to scan and manage large volumes of correspondence. So, the IQ scanning module must seamlessly integrate with web browsers and be able to upload scanned images to central web servers where authorized IQ users can access them. Lockheed Martin incorporated Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN software development kit (SDK) as the IQ scanning module. In any given week, a government office can receive thousands of letters, faxes, and other paper documents. Dynamic Web TWAIN can seamlessly support the massive volumes of work.

A Technology Need

Over 10,000 users across the country, made up of more than half of the nation's governors, federal agencies, and municipal government offices, use a Lockheed Martin system known as Intranet Quorum (IQ). Users access the system via the internet to scan and manage large volumes of correspondence.

Since so many government offices rely on IQ for consistent business processes, superior citizen service, and higher productivity, all IQ modules must meet the highest reliability standards. Downtime and poor performance are not acceptable.

As IQ is a web-based system, the IQ scanning module must seamlessly integrate with web browsers and be able to upload scanned images to central web servers where authorized IQ users can access them.

The Challenge

In any given week, a government office can receive thousands of letters, faxes and other paper documents. Due to the large number of users and documents, the challenge was to integrate a highly reliable and secure document scanner application using web browsers and web servers.

Getting Going with a Solution

Lockheed Martin incorporated Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN as the development component for the IQ scanning module. Intranet Quorum uses Dynamic Web TWAIN to scan correspondence and other documents and upload them to centralized servers.

Dynamic Web TWAIN is a scanning software solution specifically designed for web applications. An ActiveX control deployable in web-based software programs, Dynamic Web TWAIN scans images from any TWAIN-compatible device (scanner, camera, etc.) and uploads images directly to web servers.

"After an exhaustive search, we were very pleased to find a scanning tool that met our needs."

– David Haring, at Lockheed Martin

About Dynamic Web TWAIN

Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN SDK provides developers a simple way to deliver a document scanning module (TWAIN, SANE or ICA) in a web application simply by writing just a couple of lines of code in JavaScript. This is instead of taking months to learn the related standards, then many more months to develop an application with hundreds to thousands of lines of code.

A completed application gives users key features for document scanning, uploading, editing, and document management within web browsers. This SDK supports 32-bit / 64-bit Internet Explorer® (IE), Edge, Firefox, Chrome and Safari® browsers on Windows®, Mac® OS X, Linux, iOS and Android.

The SDK has built-in support for local image editing and save options to a variety of image formats. Documents captured with Dynamsoft's SDK can be saved to local/remote disk, databases, SharePoint® or other document repositories.
