As always, throughout 2018 we continually worked to improve our products and will continue to do so throughout 2019 too. Below is a summary of major product updates that occurred during 2018.

Dynamsoft Camera SDK for iOS Debuts to Easily Enable Document Capture from iPhones

In January, we introduced an SDK for iOS app developers to add enterprise-grade document scanning capabilities by easily embedding a mobile capture component in hours or days rather than spending months to build it. The SDK boasts several built-in capabilities such as automatic document border detection and artifact reductions. The feature set provided makes the SDK ideal for enterprise-grade document management application managers that want to enable document capture from mobile devices. The new Dynamsoft Camera SDK for iOS consists of a programming API for document and image capture from iOS cameras, whether from a snapshot or a video stream. Read more.

Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK v6.0 Improves Barcode Scanning Speed by 50 Percent

In April, we debuted v6.0 of the Barcode Reader SDK with an updated algorithm that improved barcode scanning speed by an average of 50 percent while also improving upon barcode reading accuracy. The updated SDK also allows the use of customizable barcode reader templates for developers to further optimize performance for specific workplace scenarios. The increase in speed performance is based on many Dynamsoft image set tests. Scanning of 1D and 2D barcodes in a four-core CPU environment were used to conduct testing and to produce an average speed. The increased performance in this major update comes from many algorithm improvements. New algorithms were added for barcode localization on photo images and for text filtering on document images. Also, the algorithms for barcode decoding were revamped. Read more.

Dynamsoft Camera SDK for Android Debuts to Enable Mobile Capture on Android Devices

In June, we introduced an SDK for Android app developers to create apps with enterprise-grade document scanning capabilities by easily embedding a mobile capture component in their applications. The SDK allows quick integration and boasts several built-in capabilities such as live document edge detection and perspective corrections. Dynamsoft Camera SDK for Android is ideal for document management application developers that want to enable document capture from Android-based mobile devices. The new SDK consists of a programming API for document and image capture for Android smartphone cameras, whether from a snapshot or a video stream. It lets users capture documents on Android phones but, with desktop-scanner quality. This makes it ideal to add an option for mobile capture and to process mission-critical documents such as contracts and forms, ID cards or driver’s licenses, passports, receipts, presentations, and more. Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK v6.2 Improves Barcode Accuracy and Decoding

In another June intro, the Barcode Reader SDK was updated with further algorithm modifications focused on continuous improvements to decoding accuracy and overall performance for its Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS editions. The new Barcode Reader SDK is version 6.2. The updates decreased the misreading rate for 1D barcodes and have also greatly improved performance of reading multiple barcodes from an image. The Linux edition is being updated from v5.2 while the iOS and Android editions are being updated form v4.2. All editions are now current at v6.2. Read more.

New Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK v6.4 Adds JavaScript Web API

And finally, in December we updated the Barcode Reader SDK as a pure JavaScript API Edition, based on WebAssembly, to enable cross-browser and cross-platform online barcode scanning. These new features will empower developers with new conveniences for users. Users can scan barcodes in real-time from a browser using their smartphone without requiring an app download. There’s also no need to capture an image and send it to a server for reading. This saves bandwidth and improves efficiency. In many cases, businesses use a browser-based system for pre-defined workflows. So, the JavaScript web API from the SDK will integrate easily into such workflows. Read more.
