Dynamsoft™ Beefs Up Cross-Platform Scanning and Security in its Web Document Scanning SDK

The New Dynamic Web TWAIN Version 12.0 SDK Allows Document Scanning from Browsers of All Platforms and Adds User Authentication to Help Prevent Unwanted Website Access

VANCOUVER – September 19, 2016

Dynamsoft's latest Dynamic Web TWAIN™ document scanning software development kit (SDK) now supports cross-platform scanning for desktop and mobile device browsers and adds security measures that lock down access to office scanning devices and images. It also optimized its large file upload process. The web scanning SDK is used by developers seeking to expedite development of scan and image capture functions in their web-based document management applications.

Version 12 of the SDK will support common browsers used in popular desktop/laptop, tablet and smartphone platforms. This helps developers to create cross-platform, cross-browser web scan solutions so users can remotely connect to scanners and upload documents practically from any device. Only one machine requires installation of the Dynamic Web TWAIN Windows Service. End users are not required to install extra components, such as plug-ins.

The new security measures include user authentication and device settings. It allows developers to implement control over whether a specific website and a user can access scanners, webcams or local files. This includes locking down the ability to read or save local images. It helps avoid unauthorized access from online document management applications to peripherals and local disks.

"As use of web or cloud-based services running on browsers continue to grow and grow, cross-platform compatibility and security continue to be paramount concerns for businesses and their IT staff," said Amy Gu, Vice President of Dynamsoft. "So, anytime we see an opportunity to enhance these two capabilities in our SDKs, we'll take it. As a result, Dynamic Web TWAIN version 12 allows more secure scanning from practically anywhere and any device."

Optimizing the HTTP image upload process includes adding support for breaking apart images on upload. This segmenting during transfer helps remove any server-side worry about the limitation of the size of an HTTP post request.

About Dynamic Web TWAIN
Dynamic Web TWAIN provides cross-browser cross-platform document scanning support. Users can scan documents from TWAIN and ICA-compatible scanners using a variety of browsers: Chrome®, Firefox®, Edge®, Internet Explorer® (IE), or Safari®. Images can be saved in various file formats – JPEG, TIFF, PDF, and more – or transferred and stored across varying protocols, local or remote file systems, database and document repositories. There are also capture add-on options that cover barcode reading, webcam image capture, PDF rasterizer, and optical character recognition (OCR).

Dynamic Web TWAIN provides programmers with simple built-in interfaces to access local TWAIN-based imaging devices from web pages. They need only write a handful of lines of JavaScript code to enable cross-browser document scanning, uploading, editing and processing. It saves on costs by eliminating months of work coding from scratch for TWAIN scanning, and image capture functions. Development teams also realize long-term time and cost savings with better application robustness and faster time to market.
