Vault Health valued the Dynamic Barcode Reader SDK for its ease of implementation - including self service documentation, samples, and the evaluation download. While Vault required very little technical support to get started and deployed within 2 weeks, Dynamsoft’s (award winning) Technical Support is available pre and post deployment to assist customers with testing and ongoing support. Now, with the aid of the SDK, Vault customers conveniently scan to register their COVID-19 kit, removing a chance for human error when entering a code. Vault customers also scan the shipping barcode when mailing back the kit to track the return package. The SDK added the convenience, accuracy, and support for all common desktop and mobile browsers that the Vault Health team sought. Today, the COVID-19 kit is being administered across all 50 states.

A Technology Need
Vault felt an obligation as a team to help expand COVID-19 testing across America by partnering with Infinity Biologix and Spectrum Solutions to make an at-home, saliva PCR test, available to the public through Vault Health’s digital platform. To support the national medical practices, Vault Health’s technology platform is used to manage delivery, registration, and deliver results of the kits. Since the program began in May 2020, Vault has partnered with professional sports leagues, major universities, airlines, and state governments to help expand it’s testing to both industry and the public.
Vault felt it could help by making testing more available and providing a top-notch service that people can rely on. The program continues to expand the overall availability of testing across the U.S, and decrease the risk to medical professionals who are directly exposed to the virus when conducting in-person testing. It also helps to reduce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) which throughout the pandemic has been in limited supply in specific areas across the country.
To get a test, individuals or corporate teams can order online on Vault Health’s website. When the kit is received, they follow the provided instructions - this includes the test being taken under Zoom supervision by a testing supervisor.
At the early stages of the program, Vault closely monitored user experience to innovate the at-home testing service, and found that some customers had difficulties typing in the sensitive codes as part of the registration process. As a result, the Vault Health technical team considered implementing a barcode scanning solution.
Getting Going with a Solution
A barcode solution would resolve many of the concerns associated with entering codes by making it more convenient and leaving less room for human error.
For the task, Vault Health’s product and engineering team began researching barcoding solutions. They considered building it in-house, but to save time and to focus on innovation of the core product, they looked to third parties for help.
As they conducted their research, they focused on finding a solution that offered accuracy, speed, and convenience, and settled on the Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK.

Use of the SDK significantly improves the specimen collection device registration process. Now, users can easily scan the provided barcode for their sample collection kit to register it prior to providing their sample. This added level of convenience also decreases the potential for patient errors in entering codes, and also enables patients to easily scan postal information to track their package on its way to the lab.
The Vault Health team valued Dynamsoft's cost flexibility, accuracy, and ease of implementation. As of December 2020, the Vault Health team has created a strong capacity for testing. It has now administered COVID-19 tests across all 50 states. The team has added plans to expand use of the Dynamsoft Barcode SDK to other diagnostic testing and scanning solutions.
