Solution

Rather than building a barcode recognition engine from scratch, PackVision evaluated both commercial and open-source solutions. The team determined that developing a reliable scanning engine internally would require significant computer vision expertise and months of development effort.

PackVision integrated Dynamsoft Barcode Reader into its web-based packing workstation application. During a packing session, operators scan items using a webcam video feed. The SDK decodes barcodes in real time and records each scan against the active packing session. Additional references such as order numbers, carton IDs, and carrier tracking numbers can also be captured.

All scan data is uploaded to PackVision's cloud platform, where it is stored alongside session metadata and video recordings. Warehouse managers and customer service teams can later review complete packing histories through a web-based management portal.

The integration challenge primarily involved connecting the live webcam feed to Dynamsoft's ImageSourceAdapter framework. Once implemented, the SDK fit naturally into PackVision's architecture and became the core data-capture layer of the platform.
