How Sprinkle Achieves 3-Second QR Code Scanning for Delivery Tracking and Traceability

Challenge：Slow Scanning Made Traceability Impractical

A key part of Sprinkle’s delivery workflow involves scanning QR codes attached to each 5-gallon bottle to track deliveries and product movement. However, their previous scanning solution created a major operational bottleneck.

Each scan took approximately 5 to 10 seconds, which was too slow for real-world delivery scenarios. As a result, delivery staff often chose not to scan bottles at all, as it significantly delayed their routes. This meant that, despite having QR codes in place, the company lacked consistent visibility into bottle-level traceability.

The issue was further compounded by the physical characteristics of the QR codes. The codes were small (around 1 × 1.2 cm), sometimes misaligned, pixelated, and printed with low contrast. These conditions made reliable scanning difficult, especially in fast-paced delivery environments.

Sprinkle initially attempted to build a scanning solution in-house but found that both speed and accuracy were insufficient. To be viable, they needed a solution that could scan each code in under 3 seconds, even under less-than-ideal conditions.

Solution: Fast, Reliable QR Scanning Integrated into Delivery App

To address these challenges, Sprinkle integrated Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK into their native Android (Java) delivery application.

The implementation process was efficient. A proof of concept was completed within one week, followed by two weeks of integration and one week of testing. Within approximately one month, the solution was ready for production use.

With Dynamsoft in place, delivery staff can now follow a streamlined workflow: select a customer, enter delivery quantities, capture proof-of-delivery photos, and scan each bottle quickly and reliably.

The improved scanning performance allows the system to handle small, low-quality QR codes without requiring users to adjust angles repeatedly or spend extra time trying to capture a successful scan. This makes scanning practical in real delivery conditions for the first time.

Impact: Faster Deliveries and Full Product Traceability

The most immediate impact of the new solution is a significant improvement in delivery efficiency. Scanning time has been reduced to under 3 seconds per bottle, enabling delivery staff—approximately 400 per day—to incorporate scanning seamlessly into their workflow without slowing down operations.

Beyond efficiency, the ability to reliably scan every bottle introduces full traceability across the product lifecycle. Sprinkle can now track the journey of each bottle, which is valuable for investigating incidents, resolving quality control issues, and maintaining operational transparency.

This traceability also enables new capabilities. Customers can scan QR codes to access delivery-related information, enhancing the overall service experience. In the event of a product recall, the company can identify and target only affected bottles, rather than recalling all inventory, significantly reducing cost and disruption.

Overall, the adoption of Dynamsoft Barcode Reader transformed scanning from a bottleneck into a reliable, high-performance part of Sprinkle’s delivery operations—supporting both efficiency at scale and long-term traceability.
