Introduction
FUJIFILM Medical Systems has integrated Dynamsoft's image capture software development kit (SDK) into version 6.3 of its Synapse® RIS, a leading radiology information system. Synapse RIS is widely adopted by major healthcare facilities and streamlines radiology workflows from front-office scheduling to teleradiology. The Dynamsoft SDK enhances document management and image capture capabilities to better support radiology practices.
The SDK expedited development time and enabled additional image capture and document management capabilities. The use of Sandbox security ensures browser-based image scanning applications are securely separated from the imaging devices and hassle-free communication with TWAIN-compliant devices. Challenge
As medical practices move toward more digital and paperless environments, FUJIFILM needed to enhance the image scanning module in Synapse RIS. They required a solution that could:
- Allow office staff to easily scan and manage critical documents such as insurance cards and consent forms
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility in a web-based application
- Enable native scanning on Mac OS X® without additional drivers
- Provide a secure, sandboxed scanning environment
- Offer flexible image editing and saving options
Solution
To meet these needs, FUJIFILM integrated Dynamsoft's Dynamic Web TWAIN SDK version 9.1 into the image scanning module of Synapse RIS 6.3. The SDK enabled the development team to quickly implement robust image capture and document management features. It allowed office staff to scan and edit documents such as insurance cards and consent forms with ease. The SDK provided built-in cross-browser compatibility, ensuring seamless performance across Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. It also supported native scanning from Mac OS X® devices without the need for additional driver installations, simplifying deployment in mixed-OS environments. Additionally, the SDK’s built-in Sandbox security ensured safe interaction between the browser-based application and TWAIN-compliant imaging devices. With support for local image editing and flexible saving options to various file formats and storage locations, the SDK offered a complete and efficient solution for FUJIFILM’s web-based image capture needs.
