Challenge
ShowMojo provides leasing automation software for property managers, helping them market rental units and automate scheduling, showings, and follow-ups. A core feature of the platform is self-guided property showings, where prospective renters can view a property without a leasing agent present.
While this showing model improves efficiency and convenience, it also introduces security and fraud risks. ShowMojo’s platform needed a way to perform reliable ID screening before granting access to the property without slowing down the renter experience or requiring manual review by property managers.
Initially, renters uploaded photos of their driver’s licenses, which were then forwarded to property managers for manual checks. This created delays, inconsistent handling, and additional work for customers.

Solution
To strengthen security and automate screening, ShowMojo integrated Dynamsoft Barcode Reader JavaScript Edition into its web-based workflow.
Prospective renters are guided through a simple process:
- Capture an image of the front of their driver’s license.
- Scan the barcode on the back of the license using their mobile device.
Scanning the barcode validates that the renter has a physical ID present and enables automated checks before access is granted. Based on the results, renters can proceed immediately or be routed to additional security steps or manual review when needed.
